Specialty Transportation & Service is a division of Bernhard Bus Services which has been in operation for more than 30 years. Bernhard Weihs, owner and founder of the company, has extensive experience in building, diagnosing and servicing custom motor coaches. Over the years, there has been a steady increase in demand for handicapped accessible vehicle modifications. Weihs began to see a need for this vehicle after hearing from his friends and customers with disabilities, how challenging travel was without the assurance of access to bathroom facilities, especially for those who have difficulty tranfering. Weihs states “I hope that this unique vehicle will provide the independence people with disabilities need to enjoy day and overnight trips.” This van virtually eliminates the need to find wheelchair accessible or companion restroom facilities during travel. Weihs also believes the ST&S Van will benefit disabled soldiers returning home and will give them the opportunity to travel and spend quality time with their families. The on-board restroom presents a healthier and more sanitary alternative to a public restroom. This facility is always available for use which eliminates “holding” time and comes equipped with a sanitary hand cleansing station. Cleaning the facility after use is quick and easy. Our ST&S Van has much more to offer than ordinary handicap accessible vans and mobility vehicles. This exceptional vehicle comes equipped with a stainless steel lined bathroom and overhead “Hoyer” style lift, a fire retardant interior and automatic fire extinguishing system for safety. The spacious custom built interior of the full-size Mercedes Sprinter with 60” turning radius allows for many interior seating arrangement options including those for multiple wheelchairs. It also includes 110 and 12 volt electrical outlets and generous storage capacity. There are many options for the ST&S Van; some include additional seating or storage capacity, independent A/C unit, DVD player and a variety of finishes.
Each ST&S Van is designed according to individual preferences while ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) standards. ST&S can customize this Mercedes Sprinter van or a client’s existing vehicle to suit individual needs. Specialty Transportation & Service is an authorized dealer and installer of Braun wheelchair lifts. The ST&S Van currently is available for short or long term rental and for purchase.
